Hello everybody and welcome to a new English Poetry Contest!
This challenge will be organized every month, by Marlie (child of the other side) and Charlotte (Sweet Hermione).

The idea is very simple. We decide the subject, you write the poem. (And of course, we’ll try to make an entry as well.) This can be anything that’s inspiring; another poem, a lyric, a title, a picture, a word, etc. We’ll try to vary the subject as much as possible.

Every participant has to maintain the following rules:

- You are not allowed to write more than one poem per contest
- The poem must be yours
- The poem must have something to do with the subject. Please write a few words above/below your poem to tell us a little about it (just like you usually do)
- Don’t comment on other people, you can do that via the pb-button or during the voting
- Don’t make your poem too long, 5 pages about one subject is boring
- Let someone beta it. There are many beta-readers on HPF and Cotos, TONKS and SH are willing to assist people who do want to compete but are not that good in English. With the right words your poem reads a lot easier. Don’t be ashamed just pb
- You must send your poem to SH or to Cotos; you’re no longer allowed to post it by yourself

About the voting:

- Don’t vote for yourself nor before SH / Cotos give permission. If you do your vote won't count
- Explain with more then 15 words why you’ve chosen a certain poem. “I love it” won’t do
- You only have three votes. The first vote will be 3 points, the second vote 2 points, and your last vote will be 1 point. We will count all these points per person. The three poets with the most points are the winners. Please, place these votes in the same post and think before you make a choice, we don’t appreciate cheaters
- You have to vote before the given date, if you cast your vote later it doesn’t count

Well, those were the rules and now the most important part; PRIZES!

1st place - 40 sickles
2nd place - 30 sickles
3rd place - 20 sickles

No one can win the first price more than 3 times in a row. If so, SH / Cotos will decide what to do. I hope you all understand why we do this.

The subject of this month is brand new, because of the second Harry Potter book. But no worries, you don't have to make a book about the first Harry Potter book, but just about this subject spiders . You can think of fear, a lot of legs and eyes, the dark, being small, etcetera. Give an explanation and we'll accept it.

Please send your poem between the 5th and the 24th of July.
And you can vote between the 25th and 30th (24.00) of July.

We wish everybody good luck and lots of fun. If you have any suggestions, tips, notes or ideas; feel free to use the lovely pb-button, it’s begging to be pushed.

Charlotte (Sweet Hermione) and Marlie (Cotos).

1st poem

I thought the subject was hard. Making a poem about spiders, with their icky long legs, or many people who don't like them. Or about a spiders weg, which are very complicated, but strong. I choose to make a poem about their webs, cause I think their webs are interesting.

---

Together
but still alone
You act like you like me
but I know you don't

I'm caught in a spiders web
unable to move
and to get away
away from you

You are in charge
will you let me go
or do you stil need me
to take care of you

I want to get out
of this friendship
but I'm unable
I'm caught in a spiders web

2nd poem

I guess love is the one thing that can heal even the deepest and nastiest wounds. It can even cure fear.
Love heals all; that's what this poem is about.

---

The mirror reveals the miracle that you are

Because the words I fear,
Unwind like rusty bones.
And your new born cheer,
Softens all it’s groans.

For the teddybear going wild,
Reclaiming all your flair.
No more than the mere child,
Tangled like the spiders in your hair
.

3rd poem

This was a really hard subject! I laid in my bed in the middle of the night, staring at my notebook for hours, just wondering what to write... and then I went to Melbourne, which gave me an enormous inspiration-boost. So I came up with this:
I wrote my poem like a spider. It's eight sentences long, and the sentences flow like a web. I can't really explain it, but you'll see in the poem. So, here it is:

--

The spider establishment

So I guess this is an apology but
not as you would expect I'm
not taking blame for this shipwreck for
before it hit the waters it was already wrecked you
and I were never we for
you were you and I were not so
I'm not taking blame for this the
spiders kiss is what we got.

4th poem

I made a complicated poem about the subject this month. Spiders seem to be evil and stand for darkness and mystery. Often they're related to evilness. But they're just animals that do as their mind tells them to do, even when a lot of people hates and disgusts them.
I think we all have this spider instinct in ourselves, a part of us we dispise and disregard, also in other people, when they suffocate us. Watch out, when your blinded by their looking or personalities, they might take that chance to grab you, and then... it's too late...

---

In your web

As I'm fightin' and strugglin'
Being blind and deaf for fear
Do not know what’s pullin' me trough
Troubling held me back from seeing clear.

Mindless I looked the other way
And kept moving towards you
Spinin' and turnin' and whirlin'
But now, I’m blue.

You hands are moving too fast
Can't escape, it's too late
I beg wordless
With my tears of hate.

Caught
.

5th poem

The subject of this month was a rather hard one. After thinking a lot, I decided to take a closer look at spiders. Many people fear them, but they don't do us harm. Many people want to kill them, but they only help us (they eat insects that sting us etc.). They are rather innocent creatures, so where does the fear come from? Why are spiders the enemy? I let the spiders speak.

---

We fear the dawn above all other
For it brings the light of day so bright
In darkness we prefer to be smothered
So far away from the hunting light

Often are we called eight legged freaks
Accused that agony is what we wish to bring
Whilst the only thing we seek
Is a cool place from autumn to spring

We chase your stinging enemies
Why are we not your friend?
A question that could chase us until the end

Wow, so many poems about a difficult subject with so little time, I'm proud of every person who competed and also of those who have tried. Unfortunately no one has voted so SH and I will have to do it. I will also open the new EPC today so you can start brainstorming again. ^^
This topic will be closed around 8.00 pm so if anyone has changed his/her mind, please vote!

***

My first vote goes to poem number; 3
Because; I think the idea is marvellous and you did very well. It's a little difficult to read but once you've caught the flow, it's great. I like the poem, the “spiders' kiss" (yuck) and the rhyme.

My second vote goes to poem number; 2
Because; it’s not the poem that reminds me of spiders the most but I do like it. I see the title as part of the poem and also an important one which is quite rare. *hard to explain*
The only minor thing is the fact that I would have liked it longer. :")

My third vote goes to poem number; 4
Because; the rhyme is good, the end is good (catchy XD) and the poem itself is good as well. I like how you left the g's away, it's something different. "Mindless I looked the other way, And kept moving towards you", is the best sentence. It reminds me of a book.

oke my enlish s*cks, but I'm going to try and vote Very Happy

my first vote goes to poem number 5:
It gives a really depresed look at the life of a spider. I hate spiders, but really if you read this poem, your heart is gonna break. The writer has put the story of the spiders on paper.

my second vote goes to poem number 4:
it's quet catchy. The rhyme is good en it reads like a book. The poem is going like a train. You don't realise that you're reading a poem. Well done.

My third vote goes to poem number 1:
If you read the poem, without the words "spider" and "spiderweb"you'll stil got the idea that the theme is spiders. And that is is good job.
