Avery Tanner

The blonde guy turns out to be called Nick. He has a smile on his face, but it looks forced. No wonder. He is outnumbered, after all. Besides, he's tiny and it doesn't look like he has a clue how to use the shotgun he's holding in his hands. If Avery was in a situation like that, she'd feel really threatened.

But the situation quickly turns around when Nick steps aside and a girl with a goddamn machine gun appears. Avery forces herself to keep her expression calm, but her heart is racing and she's poised to duck back behind that pillar again if it looks like that girl is going to use that thing. Depending on how many rounds she has, she could wipe the group out in seconds.

Then the girl introduces herself, with an emphasis on her surname. Avery immediately recognizes it; you can't really live in L.A. for long and not be aware of Thorpe Industries. "Thorpe as in Thorpe Industries, I suppose?" Avery asks flatly, though she's pretty sure she's correct - Roxann seems like the arrogant white rich girl type that Avery can't stand, and besides, that emphasis on Thorpe tells her enough.

"That isn't going to be of much use to you now," she says. Avery also notices that Roxann seems pretty disappointed with finding them, and wonders if that is because she didn't want to find any people in general or because she disapproves of the make-up of this particular group.

The closer Anna moves towards the silhouette of the possible church, the more sure Anna becomes that it is a church. When she knows for sure it is a church, Anna quickens her pass to walk up to the building, ofcourse still being alert if something is happening around her. When Anna places her hand on the door handle she doesn’t really think about the possible danger behind it. So without any hesitation she opens the door, where she finds out that she isn’t the only one.

A smile of relieve appears on her face by the look of the other survivors. 'Hey uhm...I'm Anna' she says with the same relieved smile 'I'm so happy that I've found you'

The corners of Ric's lips pull up when he hears Daryl's comment about their heroics. The boy introduces himself as 'Nick', and Ric nods his head so as to say 'hi, welcome to this... thing'. Avery asks whether there's anyone accompanying Nick, and Ric's about to say that it's pretty obvious that he's alone, but then Nick steps in and this girl comes into view. Ric takes a reflexive step back, especially when he notices the machine gun she's holding. She introduces herself as Roxann Thorpe - which means nothing to Ric. She doesn't strike Ric as the nicest type of person - there is a certain air of arrogance to her appearance somehow.

Whereas her last name doesn't ring a bell in Ric's head, it seems to mean something to Avery. Avery names 'Thorpe Industries', and that name is vaguely familiar. Ric hopes that Roxann doesn't get some false sense of superiority because her family's rich. Or was rich - depending on whether they're still alive or not. Probably not. Avery voices Ric's thoughts by saying that her background won't help Roxann.

That's about the time when this other girl sort of wanders in? Her name is Anna and she tells them she's happy to have found them. Ric stares at her for a moment - is she not aware of the situation, or is she just terrifically naive? It doesn't matter really. Ric steps back some more to re-join Daryl and Avery. "Right. I suppose this is it?" He doubts more people will come in. "We should stick together - it's more likely we survive if we do. If someone doesn't want to stay, I suggest you leave now." His gaze sort of lingers on Roxann because he can't help but distrust her. But if she says she wants to be part of whatever they are, then she'll be a part of it. Ric just wants this out of the way so that it's all agreed upon that they are, in fact, a team. That they will, in fact, stay together. He kind of needs that. (And he kind of needs others to need that too).

Roxann pouts, insulted by some ordinary girl, telling her her background wouldn't be of much use to her in this situation. Wrong, Roxann immediately tells herself. There had been all kinds of people who had helped Roxann get on the road, all kinds of people with the false belief that the world would eventually turn back to its previous state.

Then Anna steps into the church, while Roxann had not even entered it. Roxann raises an eyebrow. What was wrong with her? Was she mentally ill? Hadn't she recognized the machine gun? Roxann bit her lip. Did Anna know that Roxann didn't have any ammo? Was Anna mocking Roxann? For a minute, Roxann glares distrustingly at Anna. Then she glances at Nick. He as well had been quite brave by approaching Roxann earlier. Did these people work together? They probably had some kind of scheme against her...

,,Are you an idiot?'' Roxann asks Anna, slightly irritated, her face changed by a dramatic frown. ,,Don't you sense the atmosphere around here?''

This was exactly why Roxann had tried to evade being in bigger groups. What did these people knew about Roxann? And what did she knew about them? Nobody could be trusted. When some boy starts talking, Roxann lowers the machine gun. Slowly, but steadily.

Roxann sighs as she hears what that guy has to tell them; all about sticking together, leaving if you didn't want to. And then what? Then the remainder of the group would certainly be coming after her to rob her from evertything she had! ,,You talk like you have a plan,'' Roxann comments on Ric's 'speech' - cynically. Roxann realised that she'd better be a bit more quiet from now on. She didn't want those people to have anything on her that would assist them in bringing her down.

Just when Daryl wants to lower his gun, another woman steps into the church. The machine gun in her hands was enough reason to keep his own weapon aimed at her. Apparently it was no friend of Nick's and her surname is Thorpe. Great.

"The status you have was one of a different world, Roxann.'' he adds to Avery's words, both surprised as pleased to hear someone with the same opinion.

Roxann isn't the only problem. Chick no. 3 tumbles into the holy place and introduces herself as Anna. It was actually starting to get crowded. With a little distrust he concludes she's the most naive of them all. Or maybe it was just a cover.

"Hey, listen up!'' Daryl moves his gun towards Roxann. "I get that the situation is tiring and that you're probably not used to getting your manicured nails dirty, but we're the only people you have left for now. We either join forces and find a way to survive, or you go back out there and get eaten alive. Suit yourself.''

Avery Tanner

Avery is startled when another girl just wanders in and seems completely oblivious to the situation. How stupid can you be? she thinks harshly, before gripping the gun on her belt tightly again. She doesn't like how Roxann treats the girl, though - with so much contempt. And that's something that's always guaranteed to raise Avery's hackles. "Lay off," she snaps, feeling a bit more secure now that Roxann's lowered the machine gun, though she's still keeping a careful eye on it.

She doesn't say anything else for now, just listens to Ric's speech and Roxann's cynical reply, followed by Daryl intervening. "I agree with Daryl. Your best chance of surviving is staying in a group." Though Avery wouldn't trust anyone here with her back, yet. "But if you can't cooperate, you're better off leaving, because we're not going to put up with your bullshit just because you used to be rich."

Though Avery wants to say more, she shuts her mouth when she spots movement behind Roxann and Anna, through the church doors and across the street. In one flowing movement she draws her sword from her back - her gun won't be of much use and she doesn't like using it anyway. "We'll need to put off this discussion for a bit," she says, nodding towards the group of zombies that comes lumbering towards the church doors. Those doors are the only entrance, which means that this spot is easily defendable - but also that the group is trapped and won't be able to escape without fighting their way through a group of zombies.

Avery doesn't have that much faith in the group, and she doesn't like Roxann at all, but she figures that this common threat will unite them - for now. "The racket must've attracted them. I guess we'll see what you're all worth in a fight." And with a ferocious grin, she charges off, sword in her hands.

Daryl listens to Avery, agreeing with every word. His eyes dart to the church doors. "Seems like we have some visitors.'' Partycrashers. "Okay, so I propose we get rid off these assholes and get out of here. The sound of flying bullets will attract more of them. It won't be safe for us here anymore!''

And with that Daryl loads his gun and runs after Avery. They needed to be closer. The chance to hit the other survivors was too big. Besides, it'd be stupid to waste ammunition.

"Cover each other's backs!'' he orders, catching up on the woman. Daryl lifts his gun and shoots the nearest zombie. Bullseye. "Can you keep up?'' he challenges Avery, smirking a little out of breath.

Ric Soto

Roxann lashes out at Anna and Avery sticks up for her. Ric doesn't move - his eyes are trained on Roxann. She tells him that he sounds like he's got a plan and he squints his eyes before saying: "I do have a plan. My plan is to survive and not do it alone." And he says it as if the first part if the most important one, while in fact, he cares more about the second part. He looks at Roxann, curious as to whether she'll have a witty retort to that, since she can't possibly argue with wanting to survive.

Daryl suddenly steps forward and he addresses Roxann in a rather rude way. Not that she doesn't have it coming - she does. Avery agrees with Daryl but Ric stays silent because he thinks he's already made his point regarding the sticking-together issue.

And then something behind Roxann is moving and all of a sudden Avery pulls out her sword and she runs right at them. Daryl comes into action soon after that and he tells them to have each other's backs and despite having lived in a zombie-filled world for a while, Ric still finds their appearances scary. He kicks into attack-mode soon enough though - he pushes the fear away. Fear's not gonna help him get anywhere. All he needs to do is think of how much and how deeply he despises them and from then on it gets easy because he wants kill them.

He pulls out his pistol, makes sure it's loaded and points it at the zombies. He looks at Roxann for a second before moving forward. "Cover me, will you?" He's not smiling like Daryl; there's nothing even remotely smile-worthy to this situation. Ric moves forward, his pistol fixed at one zombie in particular. He's not a very good shot, especially from a distance, so he tries to get as close as possible before pulling the trigger. At first, the bullet misses the zombie's head altogether. Second try: the bullet lodges itself in the zombie's eye. Third try: his forehead. Fourth try: head. Fifth try: head. The thing is still moving, despite being considerably slowed down and wounded. "Avery!" Ric points at that particular zombie, so as to say 'finish it off, can you?', since she's the one with the sword and his pistol's not going to kill anything. He still thinks he needs to find himself one of those, but those swords probably don't drop from the sky.

Avery Tanner

Avery runs past Roxann, who's still holding that machine gun - but Avery doesn't see her as a threat for now, even Roxann should be able to see that the zombies are the priority right now - and out of the doors. Daryl soon catches up and challenges her. Keeping an eye on the advancing zombies, Avery smirks.

"In my sleep," she retorts, before she engages one of the zombies coming towards her, cutting first its left arm off in one clean sweep and then going for the head as well. Zombies don't use weapons, which makes it easy to take them out as long as you're not surrounded - except Avery suddenly realizes that the arm she cut off was holding a stone, and-

"Got it!" she shouts back to Ric, momentarily distracted from this particular mystery by his need for back-up. She hurries her way over there and easily cuts the zombie's head off; he was mostly disarmed by Ric, after all. Quickly, she pivots and takes a look at the zombies that are still coming towards them. About 15, she'd guess. Most of them indeed holding stones, one or two even sticks. As if they're getting smarter. That's bad news.

"And how are you doing?" Avery yells towards Daryl, who she's seen only shoot one zombie so far. She grins and rushes forward again, to fight a third zombie.

Despite acting tough, a feeling of relief rushes through him when Ric joins the fight. Avery might be strong and he could probably take some zombies on by himself, but they weren't going to win if they would have to face the monsters alone. Outnumbered is what they were. Any help would be useful. Daryl grits his teeth when the zombie he just shot is starting to move again. They needed more weapons. Avery was in advantage, swinging her sword like a professional, but most of them only had guns. The only weapon that might actually do the trick besides swords and axes was Roxann's machine gun.

"I could use some help!'' Agressively he shoots the living dead again to make sure it stays on the ground. "The guns don't work! We need to find more swords!''

Cold sweat was sliding down his back. They were in big trouble, especially if Avery was the only one who could give the finishing blow. Quickly he turns his gun towards the group of zombies, noticing now that they're holding sticks and stones. Damn it.

"Avery!'' he yells, taking down another one. "Ric and I can't kill them. You'll have to do the job!'' Where were the others? "Hey, you there!'' He didn't face them. It was too dangerous. "Mind to help out?!''

Ric Soto

Avery slices its head off and Ric is already off to shoot the next one in the face. He feels frustrated because his pistol's not going to be enough. The frustration is only building, in fact, because not only is his pistol not enough, but he's also losing ammunition without doing some actual killing. At this rate, he'll be out of bullets and he'll have to hide behind one of the others.

He hears Daryl complain about how the two of them (meaning Daryl and Ric) can't kill them. He tells Avery to do it all instead. Ric's head snaps to face Daryl. Adrenaline rushes through him and he can't help but shout: "If I have to I'll rip their heads off with my BARE HANDS!" And he's about to do just that - he's this close to throwing his gun away and running at one of the zombies with no weapons. It's all he can do to stay put, really. He feels angry and frustrated beyond belief. The thought of punching one of those things so hard until their heads roll off... It's tempting. (Not very realistic, but tempting).

His eyes slide over Avery and that's when he remembers that she has multiple back-up knives. He could use that. He could do something with that. Plus, getting up close and personal with those zombies sounds really good. He might be able to channel some of this - this rage through that. He'd be killing them with his own strength. It's irrational to want that, but he's into one of those moods. All he wants is to get moving.

"Avery!" he yells. He moves closer to her, shooting one zombie in the chest as he walks. "One of those knives of yours would be really handy right about now!" It doesn't sound like a question - it sounds like an instruction. He doesn't care though - this is not the place nor the time for congeniality.

Daryl fires another bullet and tries to find space to reply on Ric. As long as only the three of them were fighting there was only a tiny chance they'd win. What the Hell are they doing over there? Ric's words had been naive. They made the age gap even bigger. He understood where the boy came from but-

"Don't do that!'' he snaps, witnessing how another zombie hits the ground and how the one he shot before is starting to crawl back up. "I get your frustration, but touching those things will only increase the likelihood of you getting infected! Do you want that?!''

Ric moves towards Avery and Daryl listens to what he says. "You have more?'' Great. Why didn't they let him know sooner?

A loud hiss escapes his lips when a hard object hits his shoulder and cuts through his flesh. He doesn't notice the new blood stain that settles itself on his shirt as he watches how the object hits the ground and rolls away. A stone. A fucking stone.

"Lend me one of those knives, will you!''

Anna looks at Roxann with an insulted expression on her face, why does Roxann call her an idiot? 'Ofcourse I do, my parents just always taught me to be happy no matter what, or you could overflow the rivers with your tears' she says laughing vaguely. Anna agrees to the idea of the dark haired guy (Ric) that they should stick together, oh that's so smart and so true that we should do that. As zombies invate the church Anna shoots the first zombie right between the eyes, and notice allready before Daryl says the guns don't work, well that the guns don't work.

But it did worked when she killed her parents, is it possible that the zombies get stronger and smarter, cause that means real trouble if that's the case. 'Cut of her head!' she says loud to the girl with the sword when the zombie she shots starts moving again, and is a bit disgusted with herself for yelling in a way to this girl who just stood up for her.

Again, Roxann raises her nose in an arrogant matter as Daryl speaks up to her. Another of those people who thought that the world had turned around a 180 degrees. That wasn't true. Worlds didn't change that easily, people didn't change that easily. In fact, Roxann believed that people couldn't change anyway. The people inside this church were just exceptions - typically a problem Roxann would stumble on, having to have to deal with people that were exceptions. The problem was, that seemingly all of them were exceptions. Roxann sighs.

Avery speaks up as well, but before she's done talking, Roxann already noticed the sounds behind her. With unbelieving eyes she turns around and watches a group of zombies reaching the church. Avery and Daryl immediately react and start hacking in and shooting at the zombies. Ric even orders Roxann to cover his back. Well no, Roxann had little ammo, and she actually considered these exceptions more dangerous than the zombies. She wasn't going to rid herself of her most valuable asset - her machine gun. Luckily, Roxann brought the poker.

Most pleasingly for Roxann is Daryl's statement that guns don't work. That meant - basically - that Roxann could continue to use her machine gun as a weapon to scare the exceptions away, if she had to.

The fight takes place right before Roxann's eyes, but she herself isn't in physical danger. The zombies are still too far away to even scratch Roxann, and the others are fighting them off, meaning Roxann probably didn't have to do much. On the other side, not doing anything would give fruit to anger, and that wasn't what Roxann wanted either.

As Ric - and soon after Daryl - cries out for Avery's 'knives', Roxann sees an opportunity for her to be helpful. With small but fast steps she comes closer to Ric. ,,Forget about those knives,'' she tells him, manoeuvring through the group of zombies as much as she can. ,,Take this! Accurately, Roxann throws the poker towards Ric, which lands close to where he is and comes down with an awfull 'clang' - a sound to which the zombies seem to react, slightly. ,,You can probably make better use of it than I can!'' Roxann tells him, just before having to move herself again because of an approaching zombie.

Avery Tanner

Avery is busy fighting her third zombie when Daryl shouts something about needing to find swords. She rolls with her eyes - because handling a sword when you're untrained in sword fighting isn't exactly the smart thing to do - but then needs to focus on the zombie, which was starting to creep up on her. With a wild swing she beheads it, then looks around and sees that Ric is pretty much losing his sh*t, though Daryl tries to calm him down.

Meanwhile, Anna insists that Avery should finish a zombie, Rich White Girl conveniently keeps herself back, Daryl and Ric both want knives, and Avery tries to keep track of everything that is happening, including a stone that's being thrown her way. Quickly, she leans back so it only grazes her cheek. Still hurts, but it's better than her head getting bashed in.

After that,Avery quickly moves towards Anna. The zombie is slowly getting up again and doesn't even notice that Avery's there before she cuts its head off. Backing up a bit, Avery avoids a group of three zombies coming her way and eventually gets next to Daryl. Ric won't need a knive once he picks up Rich White Girl's poker, so Daryl is the priority for now.

She takes one hand off her sword, reaches into one of her boots and gets a knive out, which she holds out to him, keeping a watchful eye on the advancing group of zombies and catching her breath for a bit. The disadvantage of sword fighting is that it's a lot more physically demanding than guns and also has a way higher risk of getting injured, which is why Avery usually goes for a "disable them for a while and then run" approach. From a tactical viewpoint, that would be the smartest thing to do right now, instead of bothering with knives and pokers. However, Avery believes that fighting together as a group might have a good impact on group cohesion and besides, she feels that it would be merciful and just to put those zombies out of their misery. She's not going to run now.
